We first discovered Vermentino on a trip to Italy. Some of the best examples hail from Sardinia & are a daily accompaniment with the seafood & light fare of the area. In 2006 we grafted old vines, originally planted in 1972, to this varietal, making us the first vineyard to grow it in Oregon. This is the continuation of the pioneering tradition started by our founder, Dick Troon. A warm, dry year resulted in an excellent production of fruit. Flinty, mineral-driven qualities are first & foremost, with the typical lemon & white peach notes following. Medium bodied, finishes dry, with crisp acid. A great apertif wine, this would go well with shellfish, oysters or steamed clams.
